Sustainability Mandates Reshaping Documentation

From aspiration to obligation

For years, sustainability in building was largely voluntary — a green badge for projects that chose to pursue it. That era is closing. Embodied-carbon limits, energy-performance reporting, and material-disclosure requirements are increasingly written into law and lending criteria, turning what was once optional into a baseline obligation. For documentation teams, the shift is profound: the drawing set now has to prove environmental performance, not just describe physical form.
